What is the Network?

The Bioamazonia Network - Biodiversity Research and Innovation Institutes is an initiative born from the consensus that cooperation and collective action are fundamental to address the social, economic and environmental challenges of the Amazon biome. The Bioamazonia Network has the technical and financial support of the Amazon Forever Program, coordinated by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The creation of the Bioamazonia Network was motivated by the unique moment we are living in the history of mankind, in which we are facing multiple crises and rapid changes that are dramatically altering the conditions of life on our planet and, in particular, in the Amazon. It is essential to highlight the relevance of the Amazon biome for the global climate and its importance as an indivisible whole, formed by different ecosystems from the Andes to the Atlantic Ocean, its enormous biodiversity still little known and the numerous indigenous peoples and traditional communities that live there.

Vision

The vision is to be a leading network and global reference in biodiversity research and innovation under interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and transboundary collaboration schemes between institutes, governments, companies and communities, promoting and contributing to the conservation of the Amazon through science, technology and innovation with a focus on bioeconomy, as pillars of sustainable development.

The mission of the Bioamazonia Network is to integrate and strengthen the capacities of its members, promote the generation and exchange of knowledge on the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, and the development and transfer of innovative technologies and solutions for the Amazon bioeconomy.
